Nature Class

Step out of the classroom. Step into the Nature.

The UNESD (United Nations Education for Sustainable Development) decade 2005-2015 was extended beyond limit because of the demonstrated power of education to promote wise use of our natural resources hence achieve sustainable development. As we prepare learners to work for the and in the environment, Sustainable Development skills should encompass. The product is suitable for both international and East African School/ college groups who want to integrate the environment into the curriculum or achieve a practical approach to learning through field excursions, field trainings, volunteer programs, and research or exchange programs. We assist tutors/ teachers to plan and implement field activities that promote curriculum integration. Whilst our trips offer challenges and adventure, health and safety of students is a priority.

The Nature Class activities include

THEMES FOR EDUCATIONAL TOURS

History, Arts and Culture

Bring your history, arts and culture school trip to East Africa as there is so much to discover. In these trips the students will visit archeological sites in the rift valley where the first humans were discovered, see the history of migration, colonial rule, slave trade and transformation of Art in museums. Also learn about the traditional political systems, language and culture through immersion and tales from the hosts and enjoy local foods, name it all.

Geography

Geography is an interdisciplinary subject which is practical in nature and requires use of strategies that give the learner hands-on experiences. East Africa is well known for its magnificent physical features. These include highest mountains in Africa which are Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya, the river Nile which is the longest river in Africa with its source from Africa’s biggest Lake Victoria. The region is also famous for its game reserves located at the Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater in Tanzania and Masai Mara in Kenya and dense forests like Bwindi impenetrable park and Kibale forests which is a habitat for apes. There is a lot of geology to learn in the Great Rift Valley inform of volcanicity, soils and minerals and land forms. We can make the geography study tours to be simple or complex depending on the level of education of the group.

Science and Ecology

East Africa is endowed with mega biodiversity because of variety of ecological zones and habitats, which include coastal and marine, mountain, lowland, tropical, dryland, forest, and arid land. This makes it ideal for a science, biology and ecology field trips. Students in any grade can fit into these trips. Students on these trips will engage in and assist with ongoing conservation projects subject to availability and restrictions, take game drives with local wildlife experts, and participate in lectures and discussions.

Environment and Sustainability

East Africa offers great destination to expose your students to conservation. This is because of the treasure accorded to wildlife and general environment. Conservation is a priority for most governments in East Africa. It is also supported by numerous NGOs, CBOs, private entities and the community. This trips probe understanding of human-environment interactions, the impacts and opportunities for conservation. Students will understand modern challenges and solutions that can help preserve some of the world’s most diverse ecosystems – from African forest and wetlands to the savannah. The learning outcomes include understanding the historical and current threats to biodiversity in East Africa and expose learners to conservation practices. As we always aim to leave places better than we found them, students can engage in community level conservation activities and share their experiences in sustainable development.

Agriculture tours

East Africa boosts export of quality produce like flowers, tea, coffee, dairy, sugar, vegetables, fruits, meat and leather products. Students on educational trips to this region have a chance to visit farms, and see first-hand where the products in their supermarkets come from. We can be able to organize study tours to well-coordinated farms in East Africa. Students on agricultural tours will enjoy farm stays, farm visits, farm demonstrations and indulge in practical sessions e.g feeding farm animals, harvesting crops and enjoy traditional cuisine from farm fresh produce.

Exchange Programs

We are able to include a day(s) where students on an educational tour have chance to interact with their peers in the destination. Exchange programs create opportunities for students to learn, to prosper, and to work with others to solve shared problems and ensure a sustainable future. Exchanges mold future leaders who instinctively appreciate the value of international collaboration, understanding, and empathy. Studying abroad will expand employment opportunities for students. A student on an exchange trip has opportunity to learn a new language or make new friends. Activities we can tailor make in our exchange programs include and not limited to; sports, language and literature, cultural shows, ecological activities like tree planting, bird walks, dance and music.
