Day 1: Nairobi
You will be met at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Nairobi. Optional excursion to the Giraffe Centre, the David Sheldrick Elephant Trust and/ or the Karen Blixen museum is available upon request. Dinner and overnight at your accommodation.
Day 2: Nairobi – Rusinga Island
After early breakfast, check out from your hotel and drive to the airport to catch your flight to Rusinga Island which will take you only 40 minutes to arrive, you will land at Homabay airstrip then you will be received and drive to Mbita where there will be a boat transfer to Rusinga Island. Check-in your hotel then spend your time at leisure until time for lunch at the hotel. After lunch you can enjoy the hotels amenities or go for bird watching or swimming. Dinner and overnight at your accommodation.
Day 3- 4: Rusinga Island
Today after breakfast relax at the lodge at your own time, you will have optional activities at the Lodge like bird watching on land or take boat rides to watch aquatic life in Lake Victoria. Birdlife around Rusinga is spectacular, encouraging even the most reluctant birder. From stately fish eagles (which nest within the grounds) and elusive double-toothed barbets to tiny iridescent sunbirds and arrow-fast kingfishers, Rusinga truly is a bird-lover’s paradise. Rusinga’s grounds are home to more than 369 species of local and migratory birds.
At Rusinga Island there is a wide selection of water sports equipment available to suite both the experienced, enthusiast and the first timer. They include Jet-Ski, Water-skis, Mono-skis, Kneeboard, Banana and Kayaks. Taking a boat ride to the nearby white sandy beaches make fun. The best time for these activities is between 07.00 to 10.00am when the lake is generally calm. Sometimes the activities can go on until around 13.00 hours before the water current starts becoming rough. Dinner and overnight at your accommodation.
Day 5: Ruma National Park
Guests wishing to visit Ruma leave the lodge by speedboat at 6.30am. After a 40-minute boat ride on the lake (early mornings are usually calm on the lake), a 4×4 vehicle will meet you at the lakeshore for the short 30-minute drive to the park. En route you’ll see typical Luo homesteads. After exploring the park and its inhabitants enjoy a hearty bush breakfast before heading back to the lakeshore for the return boat ride to the Island, arriving around lunchtime.
Ruma National Park is one of Kenya’s most unusual and beautiful national parks. The last surviving group of roan antelope in Kenya can be seen here – a large antelope with magnificent black and white facial markings and swept-back horns. Other special animals include the Jackson’s Hartebeest and Rothschild giraffe. Also seen in abundance are oribi, bohor reedbuck, impala, topi, waterbuck and buffalo. Leopards may also be sighted. A bush breakfast in Ruma is something very special. You will return for dinner and overnight at your accommodation.
Day 6: Rusinga Island- Nairobi
Today after breakfast check out of the hotel then you will be driven to the airstrip to catch your flight back to Nairobi. On arrival you will be received and drive to hotel or airport. Optional excursion to the Giraffe Centre, the David Sheldrick Elephant Trust and/ or the Karen Blixen museum is available upon request while in Nairobi
