You will be picked up at 7.00 am and depart to visit a traditional Maasai Village not so far from Nairobi City. On the way you will see varied land forms and part of urbanization of the city. You will arrive by 9.00 am or slightly earlier to begin the day with a warm welcome of the traditional Maasai singing and dancing, which might include the extraordinary jumping dance, or ‘adumu’ which is also how Maasai warriors demonstrate their prowess.
You will then meet Maasai warriors and village elders and take part in some of their daily activities to learn about their traditional way of life that has not changed for centuries. You will learn fascinating rites of passage, how to throw a warrior’s spear, local plants used to make medicinal remedies and join in their vibrant singing and dancing. Use this time to get to know the Maasai culture and ask the questions you might have, and enjoy the humour and warm nature of the villagers as you discover that they are just as interested in your life as you are in theirs.
After a traditional Maasai lunch, you enjoy some more dance lessons and sit with the women to learn how to make some traditional beaded jewellery and learn how manyatta- a traditional Maasai homestead is build. You will depart the Maasai village at 4.00pm to return back to your hotel in the city.
